Week 4 - Term Three

School Closed

Unfortunately this week we find ourselves back in lockdown. Please continue to stay safe and if you require any support or help please don't hesitate to contact me via email: cassandras@flatbush.school.nz.

I will be posting some fun activities for the Kakano Superheroes to complete that will help to keep them busy and occupied.

Week 3 - Term Three

This week has been very busy, but also lots and lots of fun.

This week we have been focussing on the Olympics, the children have enjoyed learning about the different sports, what the different medals mean and also competing in some activities themselves.

This week along with our fun learning about the olympics we have also had the awesome team from Lets Siva. The children have had lots of fun learning their dance routine for Fridays performance.

Week 2 - Term Three

Kia Orana and happy Cook Island language week. This week we have been celebrating the Cook Island culture through arts and crafts, performances, dancing, singing and of course food.

To begin our week we were very excited to be moving back into our newly renovated classroom. With this on Monday we had the wonderful Matua Jeff come into Flat Bush Primary School and bless our classroom for us.

The children in Room 7 have enjoyed embracing the Cook Island culture and enjoyed learning about coconuts. It was very interesting as we learnt about what a coconut looks like and feels like, followed by what it smells like and tastes like. I was very proud of all of the learners willing to taste and try the coconut!

We enjoyed writing stories about the coconut.

Why is it important for children to share their writing?

- When we practice sharing writing in the classroom it provides students with a built-in meaningful audience and tells them we value their work.

- Sharing writing gives students a sense of pride and motivation in their learning.

Finally we ended the week with more Cook Island Activities including arts, crafts, music and of course a celebration assembly.

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Week 1 - Term Three

Welcome back to all of the Kakano Superheroes and the rest of our Flat Bush whanau. It was lovely to see all of the children return on Monday with a smile on their faces and looking well rested and ready to learn.

This term we sadly say goodbye to Israel and Payton, however we are excited for them and their journey into Team Tupu and into the amazing Room 6. We wish them all the best and we look forward to still seeing them around the school.

Saying goodbye to two of our Superheroes did mean that we welcomed two new ones, so welcome to Marina and Venisi. I know that both of you girls are going to love being part of Room 7.

This term we will be focussing on measurement. This week we were learning about how to order objects from shortest to tallest. The superheroes did an amazing job. Maybe you could also try this activity at home.

Lastly, on Thursday we celebrated Iris's 6th Birthday. Thank you to her mum and dad for providing a delicious rainbow cake and fun party bags for us to take home.

Happy Birthday Iris
