Da jia hao - Hello everyone and welcome to Week 10

Well done Rm18 for making it to the last week of the term.  Chinese and Tuvalu Language Week 2021.

Welcome to Week 9 Rm18 learners where

This week we were extremely lucky to have Mrs Zhao read a Traditonal tale from China, 'Chang-O and the Moon'.

We learnt about the Chinese once a year moon festival where the biggest full moon of the year appears in our night sky.  Mrs Zhao and her family light up scented sticks for peace and harmony.  A time to celebrate the upcoming harvest, Mrs Zhao and her family would watch the moon at night and share Mooncake which we learnt was actually the size of muffins!  We even had some extra guests join us .  I hear Snuggles thoroughly enjoyed the tale read by Mrs Zhao.  Thanks for joining us!

What a wonderful week it was last week celebrating Te Reo Maori. Check out Taonga shared by some of our Rm18 learners.

'Hi Mrs Vaka, This is my Taonga, its special to me because I never really got to see her, she is my only great grandmother that I know of and I've seen her only by photos and video call when she speaks to my Nana. We were going over to Palmerston to celebrate her 70th birthday but sadly she passed away before I could meet her. She is important to my family line and tracing back my family history.'

Wow Penny a very special reason as to why this photo is so special to you.  Thanks for sharing!

This necklace is really special to me because my great great grandmother gave it to me 1month and 2 years ago.  It's really special to me because she passed away 1 year ago. I really, really miss her. If I had one wish it would be to bring her back so I can say how much I love her

 so much.

Sai 'aupito Miah

Ake shares some information about Tonga.  Sai 'aupito Ake!

A huge shout out to Mavae for giving counting a go in Tongan and also taking a video, a first  for Mavae!

In Room 18 mistakes are A okay, as that's how we learn new things.  A couple of times Mavae shows how easy it is to accidentally slip back into Maori or Samoan.  Mavae, lelei 'aupito!

Counting backwards is harder than it appears, especially when you are trying it in another language. Huge congratulations to Tyler for giving it a go with only a couple of errors.

Sai 'aupito!

Before I attempted counting in Tongan at one of our class meets, my nephew Laiseni showed me how:)   Ms Vaka

Even though we are celebrating Tongan Language week chores still need to be done.

Not a good start to Tongan language for this Rm 18 learner.

I had challenged myself to post this by the end of Tongan Language week.  Practise makes perfect and I still need to keep practising. Thankfully mistakes are A okay and I will be endeavouring to memorise so that introducing myself in Tongan will come more natural and I may begin to sound like Mrs Fonohema:)

Tu'apulelulu

We are lucky to have Ms Young leading us in our 11am Meet today, make sure you are there and don't miss out on this special time with Ms Young.

Penny Marsters-Kora, I think you and your cousin did a fabulous job!  What a great effort from the both of you!  A lot of perseverance required in this task  and valuing others input- Atawahi.   I wonder if any one can beat your 3 levelled tower?

After minutes of perseverance Ms Vaka, cousin Lisi and the cats had to face the facts that we indeed had faulty ,cheap, light weight cards hence the reason we were unable to build beyond ground level!

Ngamarama shares with us what she is seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling and tasting while she is in her bubble of lockdown. Thanks Ngamarama for letting us into your bubble!

10 things I am grateful for

 written by  Ava Cocoza

I'm grateful for my mum for bringing me into the world.

The second thing I'm grateful for is my dad because when my mum is working my dad always likes making us dinner.

I'm also grateful for my nanny and my papa because they always spoil me and my siblings by buying us what we want.

I'm also grateful for always getting shopping if we really need it.

The thing that I'm most grateful for is spending time with my whole family.

I'm also thankful/grateful for having a wonderful family who always take care of us when we are sick.

The thing I'm really thankful for is having two siblings to play with even though sometimes they can be so annoying.

I'm even thankful for  getting to spend some time with my aunty because she had to go to Australia to find a job but then she came back to visit us.

I'm even grateful for being able to learn different languages like Cook Island,Maori,Spanish and other languages.

But what I'm most grateful for is having a roof over our head and living an amazing life!

Ava demonstrating the value Atawhai. We value others

10 things I am grateful for

                                       written by Ake Towgood

  1. I am grateful to have a red hardwood roof over my head and delicious food on the table.

  1. My family is another thing in my life that I am grateful for because without them I would not be able to learn my language, cook and know how to look after myself.

  1. I am grateful for my FBS family, they have been my family since 2015 and all the way from then to now 2021. I have learnt so much there.

  1. I am grateful that I am a great class captain. Leading my class to success. Kia agitu tatou katoa (Success for all).

  1. I am grateful I can do lots of homework while I am here in lockdown and get points for it.

  1. Multiplication  basic facts is the one thing that I am grateful to learn. I started  knowing nothing, then learning heaps even harder ones 6 to 9.

  1. I am grateful for getting looked after when I was sick by my incredible Nana, I love her so much.

  1. I am grateful for my siblings,  they mean so much to me.

We always play together, work together and eat together. I call it #siblingvibes.

  1. I am grateful that I get to play for the girls rugby union team with my favourite coaches and friends.

  1. I am grateful to drink drinkable water because I do not have to drink dirty water. I do not want to die without clean water like other countries. I am so sorry for other countries that don´t have any food and drinkable water. That is why I am so grateful.

Ake demonstrating the value Atawhai.  We value others, as she cleans up the kitchen for her whanau.  Great work Ake!

Tauaroa you are an incredible speller. I might be a little annoying to you just because I  want the best for you. Taua won a ton of awards and you are a really bright boy.

I know your going to be really successful when you grow up. Good luck Tauaroa!

Aunty Emily your a fantastic rock star, you clean the house every single day even if your  not feeling the best. Aunty Emily you help me with everything you were the one that helped me learn my multiplication tables and help me move higher in level to be the greatest I can be.

What I miss about school.

The things I really miss about school are my friends because without them I get super duper bored like I am today.

I also miss doing Maths because I  learn new things but since I am at home it’s a bit hard to keep my math knowledge.

The most important thing I miss doing at school is  singing on the mic. I love hearing my voice loud and everyone else’s beautiful voices. I like hearing my friends sing. I longa ha Taha is my favourite song to sing.
