Each week I will add activities that you can do with your child. Please do only as much or as little as you would like to and have fun together! Some activities will be repeated - practise makes perfect! Scroll down for some learning ideas for each day

Here's a fun video to watch about shapes. Once you have watched the video, have a look around your house and see how many things you can find that are the shapes mentioned in the video? Can you find 1 thing that is round, square, or heart shaped? Send me a photo and show me!

Red list words

These are the red words and are the next words we learn. Please help your child learn these words once they have learnt all the pink words.

Here are some ways to help you teach your children these simple words.

  1. Choose THREE words to learn at a time.

  2. Read the words together.

  3. Write the words with your child, saying each letter as you write it.

  4. Write the words on scrap paper. Cut out the letters and assist your child to put the word back together.

  5. Use magnetic letters to make the words IF you have some.

  6. Write the words outside on the concrete using chalk. Use different colours each time you write the word.

  7. Find the word in stories you read together.

  8. Play the Memory game using the words. Write the words on scrap paper - make sure you have two copies of each word. Turn them face down and take turns to find pairs of the same word. Say the word aloud when a pair is found.

  9. Use the same words on scrap paper as flashcards.

  10. Put one or two words into a sentence. Eg: I am looking for my Mum.

Monday 01 November

How do you go to school? Do you walk with your family, or drive in your car? Maybe you ride a bike or come in a taxi?

Today when you are writing your story, remember to leave spaces between each word you write. Write your first word, put your finger down, write your second word, put your finger down and so on until you are finished. We do this so we are able to easily read our stories. How did Mrs Boyd do today??

Can you use the word in or on today when you are writing your story?

Can you see the word “in”? What colour box is it in?

Can you see the word “on”? What colour box is it in?

Read the poem with someone in your whanau. How many times do you see the word in?

Now practise writing the word in. You can do this by writing it 10 times on some paper, or on a whiteboard, or in chalk outside on the concrete.

Can you write a story today using the word going

Today when you are writing your story, remember to leave spaces between each word you write. Write your first word, put your finger down, write your second word, put your finger down and so on until you are finished. We do this so we are able to easily read our stories. How did Mrs Boyd do today??

Did you notice I wrote two sentences today? Both sentences have the word going in them.

Read this poem with someone in your whanau. How many times do you see the word going? Some are written with a capital letter G.

Now practise writing the word going. You can do this by writing it 10 times on some paper, or on a whiteboard, or in chalk outside on the concrete.

Have some fun with shapes today. Count up how many of each shape you see and write the number down on a piece of paper.
